Failure Lab
Why is my IBC bulging?
The inner bottle is under internal pressure or heat, or it is carrying more load than the cage supports.
Possible causes
- Product off-gassing or fermenting after filling
- Hot fill without venting
- Product density above the IBC's rating
- Damaged or fatigued cage
What to inspect
- Vent cap fitted and clear
- Fill temperature and product density vs. marking
- Cage welds and bars
Potential corrective actions
- Use a vented cap suited to the product
- Cool before closing
- Stop using cages with cracked welds
