Multiwall paper and woven sacks
Sacks move most of the world's cement, flour, resin, fertiliser and minerals. The choices are wall build, valve or open mouth, and how the filled sacks are palletised and protected from moisture.
Main types
| 5M1 / 5M2 | Multiwall paper sack | Several paper plies, sometimes with a film barrier; M2 is water resistant. |
|---|---|---|
| 5H1–5H3 | Woven plastic sack | Woven polypropylene, unlined, sift-proof or water resistant. |
| 5H4 | Plastic film sack | Heavy-duty PE film for resins and moisture-sensitive product. |
What to decide
- Valve sack for fast filling versus open mouth sealed by sewing or heat.
- Moisture and air barrier, and venting so the sack does not balloon when filled.
- Pallet pattern, stretch hood or wrap, and how many layers the bottom sacks can carry.
Inspection and handling
- Check for leaking valves, torn plies and sifting at the seams on receipt.
Rules to watch
- Recyclability and recycled-content rules for paper and plastic packaging.
- Workplace manual-handling limits for sack weight.
